With the free programs, many times you only receive the basic Federal tax filing, and to maximize your refund, you must know the tax laws. You still must file your state return seperately, and you don't get the benefit of e-filing. With the tax programs that make it easy for you to maximize your deductions and refund, you end up paying more than you would at K & R Harris Tax and Accounting Inc. for the Federal and State e-filing.
